LOL. That's provided the unreleased songs don't have better placements though, I bet they're just "waiting for the right moment" on most of them.

She should release BEST ~fourth dimension~ that would has 4CDs of unreleased songs. 8DD YESSSS. Also, I think Brave sounds like Ai No Kotoba because of the piano, it's identical. JAPONESQUE sold 98,000 copies on it's first week of sales, and dropped to #5 after being #1 all week. However on the second week the sales are now about 118,000 (so about 20,000 more) but apparently rivals the sales that Dejavu had on it's second week, and has gone back upto #4. So it's still going. Considering she hasn't been seen, let alone any lives, since before Christmas (apart from the Goo TV talk on the 25th), I think the sales are pretty decent. I was worried, but not so much anymore. I think the BLENDA magazine has helped a little. I heard there was Music Japan on her schedule, but it hasn't happened, which is sad. Although I imagine she is about 4 months pregnant now so it's understanding. JAPONESQUE rules.

hazo: Yesssss full review plox @cl: Didn't think of that. They ARE quite similar. I wonder how the monthly is gonna do though. It's always the monthly that counts isn't it?

^I'm not sure actually. D: I think maybe the Monthly is what is considered the final sales, I guess? Kuu said on the Goo TV Talk on the 25th that the reason behind JAPONESQUE was, when she went oversea's, she noticed many international people listened to KPOP and CPOP, but not as much JPOP. So she wanted to make JAPONESQUE an album that could be listened to and enjoyed by people from the west, or internationally. Which is why there are so many western composers for JAPONESQUE, and hence why she chose the 'JAPONESQUE' theme. So considering her market was actually western people and not just the Japanese people for this album, I think she's done bloody well! You go Kuu, you never let us down. <3 I do hope the next album will be less western though. Dejavu and JAPONESQUE are quite western, so it'll be nice to have a more JPOP theme, like she used to do.

I think the monthly is the usual benchmark right? Cuz like if they say something like, "#1 Album!" you'd think it's 1st monthly...
Ooh interesting background. But yea, Kuu has been tending more and more towards western influences for the past couple of years now.
She does revert from time to time to her classic stuff though, which is great.

Ooh, didn't know that! (although a good reason for why westerners don't listen to jpop as much is because of copyright. it's so difficult to find it online these days unless you know where to look) Yeah, I was wondering why the album sounded so western despite its name lmao

If I had to compare Brave to an older Kuu song, I'd say Through the sky, they sound soooo similar. Not complaining, both are amazing.

Most people who listen to KPOP probably find it out through the internet, but because JPOP is so censored now, it's why people have lost interest in it. on YouTube, JPOP covers used to be much more popular than KPOP covers, but since they've started to even take fan covers down because of copyright, hardly anyone covers JPOP now. :/ It's saaad.

I didn't know J-pop is so censored these days. o.O That explains why I was able to watch Ayu's (miss)understood tour back in 2006 in full from youtube. Anyhoo, JAPONESQUE's western sound really makes sense now that I know the story behind the album. I love it how those lyrics seem so western and music as well. It has that amazing western r&b/dance/pop feel on it from the start till the finish which is good because I really love westernized j-pop the best.

I guess it's not so much censored as just that the owners are more anal about copyright crap? I did notice that over the past few years, JPop uploaded to YouTube for example, has been taken down increasingly quickly.
I know the KPop industry is adopting a "if you can't beat em, join em" kind of mentality. And I'd say hey, it's better for everyone at the end of the day.
Well put! All I can say about this sort of music is just "z0mg so much FEEL"
